    Tutor demonstrates the "work" sign in the workshop:  Tap side of one hand across side of the other hand, twice.

    Do you teach or work with blind and partially sighted young people with complex needs*? Would you like to learn a proven technique to communicate with them?

    Canaan Barrie on-body signing is a technique used to communicate with people with complex needs and vision impairment. It was developed at the Royal Blind School.

    This free course is suitable for teachers and other professionals involved in teaching children with complex needs and vision impairment. The day will be delivered with contributions from vision impairment teachers as well as speech and language therapists. You will:

    • Learn the theory behind on-body signing and Canaan Barrie
    • Learn how to create an appropriate signing environment
    • Explore the signs and different methods in practical sessions
    • Build confidence in putting the signs into everyday use
